Paprika production is probably the only branch of the Hungarian vegetable production using domestic varieties in 100%. In addition to the previously completely uniform technology (open field production), our pepper cultivation has branched out in new directions for the sake of production safety: we have been experimenting with planting seedlings in the fields and with an open field-based cultivation technology involving drip tube irrigation and intensive fertigation.
Our company’s first sweet hybrid was Palotás F1, which is now the market-leader in the Central European region. It has outstanding production safety and yield, high setting, outstanding nutritional value and excellent colour stability. We have not stopped breeding since then: the newest element of our hybrid program is the Fonó F1. Some of you may already have encountered a sample of the hybrid under code number ZKI 09072 F1 in 2019.
Fonó F1 – worldwide novelty in resistance!
The Fonó F1 has a resistance package that boosts the level of safety for successful outdoor production. Our new sweet paprika hybrid is also resistant to cucumber mosaic virus CMV in addition to Xanthomonas (bacterial) disease. According to our current knowledge, such sweet paprika varieties are only available at ZKI Zrt..
It has a very good set of characteristics: strong stems, robust plant, closed and very well covering healthy foliage, large, easily separable fruits. Intensive and semi-intensive technologies can exploit its genetic potential. It is also easy to harvest by pinching.
The internal parameters of the produce make it possible to achieve the highest quality according to the Hungarian paprika standards.
